US state hit by ISP problem | | 2008/05/21 | | The US state of Vermont has been hit by a web service hosting provider problem.
According to reports, the state's computer network went down for around 90 minutes yesterday (Tuesday, May 20th) morning.
A severed fibre optic line and other technical difficulties are believed to have been responsible for the disruption to a major computer data network.
Commissioner of the state department of information and innovation, Tom Murray, told the Associated Press: "We were down for a little while. All things considered, it wasn't that bad."
The problem has now been traced back to Colorado-based internet service provider Level 3 Communications
Other organisations also reported a loss of connection with Level 3 Communications which including the Independent Network Operations Consortium.
Level 3 Communications chief executive James Crowe yesterday apologised for the trouble. The group has undertaken the integration of nine acquired businesses in the last two years
