Virtual sprawl is security threat, says industry figure | | 2008/05/01 | | Server virtualisation projects may bring benefits in the short term but can be a serious security threat if not maintained appropriately, a representative of one virtualisation management vendor has suggested.
David Lynch, vice president of marketing for Embotics, has warned of the dangers of "virtual sprawl" at Las Vegas' Interop IT Conference and Exposition on Tuesday (April 29th).
According to Network World, he told attendees: "The risk of sprawl is a lot higher in the virtual world than it is in the physical world.
"When you think of how common sprawl is in the physical world, that means we're going to see it even more in the virtual world."
Server virtualisation allows applications and operating systems to be 'cloned' via the use of a hosting system.
Interop is a global business technology event, which also has dates planned in Tokyo, Sao Paulo and New York later this year.
