VoIP will appeal to SMEs, says industry head | | 2008/06/25 | | The advent of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services will be a welcome service for those small to medium enterprises (SME) who feel cheated by telecoms companies, according to one industry figure.
Vincent Potier, managing director of VoIP internet broadband provider Vonage, has pointed to the exploitation by telecoms companies of small businesses, who he said are more likely to be ripped off than residential customers.
He commented: "When you are running a small business, saving on telecoms costs is not the first thing you think of.
"Sometimes, even if you can save £50 or £100 per month, your phone can be so important to you that you hesitate to try something that is not familiar."
Research from T-Mobile shows that 42 per cent of small businesses believe that they pay too much for their mobile communications plan.
Further figures from the study indicate that some 65 per cent of small businesses admit not being able to control the prices of their international calls from mobile phones.
