Walkers has fastest growing website in UK | | 2008/07/30 | | Snack food giant Walkers has attained the distinction of being the fastest growing website over the last 12 months.
Research carried out by Nielsen Online has cited the 'Brit Trips' promotion run by the company as a key role player in the site's popularity.
Last June 17,000 web users logged on to the site but in the past year, that figure grew to 444,000 unique hits.
This represents a 2,575 per cent increase in usage.
Reward coupon sites and shopping comparison sites accounted for many of the other websites whose popularity grew impressively with Trovit the classifieds site for cars, homes and jobs becoming the second fastest.
More than 766,000 unique users viewed their website jumping from 30,000 this time last year.
Internet analyst for Nielsen Online Alex Burmaster said: "Sites tapping into consumer concerns about the economy, giving them the opportunity to save money, dominate the fastest growing list.
"Coupons and reward sites, classifieds and shopping comparison engines are obvious examples but Walkers Snack Foods is the fastest growing site of all due to their 'Brit Trips' promotion offering discounts on British holidays and trips around attractions, hotels and restaurants."
Among the UK's top sites, Google Maps, YouTube and Wikipedia grew by 57, 52 and 41 per cent respectively. |
