Web traffic continues to grow | | 2009/12/10 | | Traffic on the internet has continued to grow despite the economic crisis, industry insiders say.
However, the internet will not be able to continue expanding unless an upgrade in its structure is taken up by online service providers, delegates at the recent annual convention of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in Honolulu heard.
Associated Press described details from computer network authorities, which revealed that every year for the last seven years the traffic on the internet has gone up by 75 per cent.
Currently the IPv4 internet protocol is in dominant use in the internet but it is expected that the number of web addresses that are available will run out in 2011.
At the convention, the news agency reported speakers urging internet service providers to adopt the next-generation internet protocol called IPv6, which has a very large address space and allows for an increase in the number of available internet addresses.
If the IPv6 is adopted and web traffic continues to grow as it has in the past seven years, it will be even more vital to use website monitoring services for your site to make sure the site stays running smoothly and traffic remains high.
