YouTube hit by downtime for many users | | 2010/03/03 | | People wanting to see the latest developments in the world of online video have been forced to take a back seat for a little while, following reports that YouTube had faced periods of extended downtime for a lot of users over the last couple of days.
The top-rated video-based website on the planet was dead to many visitors, who noted that service to the main site was extremely limited unless the user refreshed the page a number of times.
Additionally, any embedded videos on other websites were failing to load for extended periods of time - something Google responded to after undoubtedly being informed by website monitoring that its use was limited to certain users only.
YouTube seemed to be more problematic for users of Mozilla Firefox than those who embraced Internet Explorer, though things seem to have returned to normal on the whole.
Google bought the service in 2006 following a successful year of independence, with the finished product going to the high bidder for no less than £1 billion.
