ZoneAlarm fix for Microsoft patch | | 2008/07/11 | | The problems caused by Microsoft's security patch KB951748 have now been addressed by ZoneAlarm, reports InformationWeek.
PCs running Windows XP or 2000 experienced a denial of access to the internet and email having uploaded the patch designed to foil Domain Name System (DNS) hackers from corrupting legitimate URL requests.
The glitch is thought to have been caused by ZoneAlarm treating the patch as hostile and responding by automatically severing web connection.
Operating systems could be restored by resetting operations prior to the upload.
The new solution is relevant to the ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, Pro, Antivirus, Anti-Spyware and Basic Firewall editions of the product and is available for download from CheckPoint's ZoneAlarm.com web site.
In utilising the ZoneAlarm fix, users are advised to consider uninstalling the Microsoft patch to restore their internet connections.
CheckPoint also recommended lowering ZoneAlarm's security settings to medium as this might also be capable of restoring connections even in the event that the Microsoft patch is still present. |
